takes up the Mobility Challenge!
Every year, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region organises the Mobility Challenge, an event that promotes using alternative modes of transport to get to work, other than by private car. As energy transition is at the heart of SuperGrid Institute’s actions and our employees’ beliefs, this Tuesday the 4th of June we decided to take up the challenge! Here’s a quick recap of this fun & environmentally friendly event that we took part in as a company.
Every day, a large majority of SuperGrid Institute employees come to work by bike or using public transport. On the day of the challenge, some motorists also left their cars at home and came to work by more eco-friendly means. Benoît, who usually takes the metro to work, even took his bike out for the occasion: “I was almost disappointed when I arrived because the journey went by too fast”, he jokes. “I’m going to do it more often! Until now, I hadn’t figured out the best way to get here… ”
At SuperGrid Institute the safety of our employees is essential. We therefore invited two associations to come onsite and help our cyclists make their daily commute as safe as possible. For example, Benoit met the association Pignon sur Rue, who set up an information booth and gave out useful, personalised advice about getting around the city by bike.
The association Change de chaîne was also on site to run free bicycle repair workshops. The 1 hour programme included: diagnosing bicycle maintenance and repair needs, understanding which parts of your bike are subject to the most wear and discovering how to anticipate potential breakdowns.
“For us it is very important to support every step towards sustainable development,” explains Charles Sarra, SuperGrid Institute Health and Safety Coordinator. “Changing our daily commute to work can be an essential part of reducing our carbon footprint. An event like this allows us to take a different approach to city living, a way to unclog the urban networks.”
